Jenny Packham Spring 2012 Collection

London-based designer, Jenny Packham, had a huge boost when the new Duchess, Kate Middleton, donned one of her shimmering gowns at the 10th Annual ARK Gala Dinner at Kensington Palace. With its light blush shade, chiffon flutter sleeves and sparkling embellishment, it didn’t just turn heads, it wowed. Certainly, all eyes were on Packham’s Spring 2012 collection. On the runway, there was a splash of appealing seaside shades in light vibrant greens, washed aquas and light dabs of sunny yellows.

Her signature flutter sleeve appeared on several numbers, sometimes floaty and other times hugging in at the shoulder. Packham also experimented with shades of orange, going from a soft sorbet to a more vibrant tangerine.

Women looking to dress for another kind of runway – the wedding aisle – have increasingly sought out Packham over the last few years.

A concept made by a korean designer named Jinsun Park. It’s very simple to use. First, find the object with a specific color that you would like to use. Then scan the color. While scanning, the RGB color sensor mixes red, green and blue inks evenly to make the desired color. This would be a very useful invention in the future and wouldn’t burn a hole in your wallet (I’m hoping!) by buying different pens. Simply refilling the ink would not only be more time efficient but cost efficient as well.

Very much in the style of the more vocally charged tracks on Idealism, the album’s first single 2Hearts although seemingly familiar, is wellcrafted, consisting of synthesized guitars and an up tempo pulse. Moreover, thelyrics are quite emotive, leaving listeners with a vow that even though “thesetwo hearts won’t make it last”, “it’s okay ‘cause I will stay with you”.

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

Embroidery Thread

Safety Cat Eyes

Step 1: Mark with a pencil, the placement of the eyes and nose on your flats.

Step 2: Embroider the nose and whiskers using a topstitch.

Step 3: Use a holepunch to make holes for the eyes.

Step 4: Insert your safety eyes and whiskers into the shoes.

Step 5: Sand off sharp edges or clip with wire cutters.

Step 6: Embroider ears or add ears made of felt and embroidery.

Neon Indian is an indie electronic band from Denton, Texas. The music is composed by Mexican-born, lead singer Alan Palomo. For starters, the much-anticipated sophomore album Era Extraña was released just recently on September 13th. When I first heard Polish Girl, I immediately identified with the sad, wistful tone hanging over the song. And shamefully after a few listens, I realise that the title is not polish, as in nail polish, but nationality *embarrassed*. But ANYWAY, that’s beside the point. Neon Indian + Polish Girl = The epitome of chillwave. Enjoy :)

I am so in LOVE with the art and fashion coming out of Africa. Arise Magazine put on a show at New York Fashion Week titled ‘Made in Africa Collective’ which featured seven African designers; KLuK CGDT, Jewel by Lisa, Tsemaye Binitie, Pierre-Antoine Vettorello, Momo by Asibuela, Lanre de Silva Ajayi, and Bunmi Koko. I found many of the designs to be absolutely beautiful, and couldn’t wait to share!!

A year ago, I was introduced to Scanners, an indie quartet based in Londen. At the time, their third sophmore record, Submarine, was about to debut. The album’s first single, Salvation, was the song that eased its way into my ears. Very impressed, I fell in love with it on the first go. The song begins with a somber acoustic guitar lick, that is soon accompanied by the vocals of Sarah Daly and a dark melody on the keyboard. The tempo really picks up when the whole band joins in for a primal set of backing harmonies, sounding as solemn and ominous as a pack of animals getting ready to kill. Salvation builds to a powerful finale, ending with what is either a threat or a final promise: “I’ll take you to my grave.”

Don’t let the year fool you, and nevermind the fact that it’s for a GameCube console. Mario Party 4 is an interactive boardgame equipped with minigames that are incredibly fun and is certainly a favourite of ours. The graphics are fairly good but most of all, it is non-violent, which makes it a great game for both kids and adults, and if you’re anything like us, you’ll probably find yourself playing for hours. Let’s Party!

If you enjoy the works of other artists such as Erykah Badu or Sade, Amel Larrieux is definitely someone you should keep an eye on. Get Up (which features on her Infinite Possibilities album (released in 2000) is one of my favourite songs from her because it’s something that not only I, but many people can relate to. Her flavour is purely inspirational and reflects the quality of sound that is easily loved because of its truth. There are not too many active artists on the charts today who compliment the adjective “smooth” so powerfully. I would be extremely excited to hear what she has to offer in the future.

A Russian architect by the name of Alexander Remizov thought of this interesting idea. It can hold up to 10,000 people and can also be used as a safe place to get away from destructive weather. This biosphere is designed to withstand floods, earthquakes and tornadoes. The prototype’s main materials include timber, steel, and high-strength ETFE plastic. This would contain 150,000 square feet of space. The Slinky is able to be on land or in the water.

All Black Everything

Honestly, I don’t think that this song even needs a review – it pretty much speaks for itself. All Black Everything is performed by none other than Lupe Fiasco and appears on his Lasers album which was released earlier this year. I didn’t really like the album, truthfully. However, this song was a gem to find. In my opinion, I do not think it is a ‘racist song’ which some people blurt out when giving it a listen. As a matter of fact, I find its meaning to be much deeper than that. If I am interpreting his lyrics correctly, Lupe seems to be talking about a dream - more specifically referring to a race-free society where there is no differentiation between people based on race, ethnicity, religion, etc. The term “All Black Everything” is referring to the moment when a person is closing their eyes and everything goes “black”. I highly recommend this song, and encourage you all to just take time to read his lyrics.

Jim Rivers’ I Go Deep appears on Hector Romero & Satoshi Tomiie’s Panorama album (released in July 2008 via Saw Recordings). It is a nice progressive/tech House tune that will leave you hypnotized from beginning to end. Unfortunately for me, every time I listen to this song it is accompanied by sorrow, reminding me of Daul Kim’s death. Nevertheless, Jim Rivers’ electronic music has been tugging on my ears for quite some time, and I am very excited to hear much of his newer releases in the future.

It speaks from the view of Dzhennet Abdurakhmanova, the Russian teenager who bombed Moscow’s tube system in revenge for the death of her husband. More enunciation tricks turn “I really love a lot” into “I really love Allah,” a clever twist of meaning that is further carried out by lyrical images of Taliban truckers, burqas and bombs on Mecca.

Toro Y Moi’s Underneath The Pine is a definite departure from his first full length release. This album has a very 70’s french analog/electronic/disco/funk feel to it with lots of full band arrangements. Featured on this album is a song called Still Sound - a perfectly smooth track laced with delicately melodic verses and an upbeat disco-like groove. It is evident here, that Toro y Moi uses everything at his disposal to express such simple yet deep feelings. This is especially heard when he cries out for the company of another human being confessing “i don’t want to be alone” over a scat-like bridge.

The saree itself is in fact simply six yards of material but yet the type of saree and the style in which it is worn creates a look which is incomparable to any other type of outfit.

The Indian saree has no limits in terms of a wearer – the saree can be worn by a person of any age and any size.

Often one of the most beautiful parts of the saree is the palu. The palu is the end of the saree and normally the most decorated part of the saree. It is normally draped at the back or front and is key to showcase the saree.

The saree also has part known as the fall which is a material border on the inside bottom of the saree. This can only been seen by the wearer and is only attached for the length of the saree that will be wrapped around the waist. Reason for the saree fall is to add weight to the bottom of the saree and literally provide an elegant fall for the saree.

Land 2 Air Chronicles is the title of Kenna’s 2011 EP, a 3 Song series that precedes his Songs For Flight album. Chains is the first song released from the EP and features Shimmy Hoffa - an alias for Chad Hugo a.k.a Charles Hugo (one half of the Neptunes and also a member of N*E*R*D). It is rumoured that Land 2 Air Chronicles might be a set-up for what may be the last Kenna album ever.

On & On is a well crafted song by British duo Fossil Collective. It is featured on their August 2010 EP: Honey Slides which consists of three perfectly well chosen tracks. Also, I think that it’s pretty cool when bands such as this one don’t worry about filling their debut album (or even EP), instead choosing a few great tracks that give a taste of what to expect from them in the future. “Quality over quantity,” right?
